Tacoma City Tax Requirements for Small Business:

License Requirements: All businesses that operate or solicit business in the city limits of Tacoma are required to get a Tacoma city business license. Additionally, businesses that do business with the city of Tacoma through contracts are required to get a Tacoma city business license. The cost of a Tacoma license is $80. The renewal fee is due by January 31. Businesses with gross income of less than $10,000 do not need to pay a fee.

Home based businesses are also required to obtain a home occupation license. The home occupation license is a one time fee of $75.

Business & Occupation Tax: The city of Tacoma is one of 39 cities in the state of Washington that has a business and occupation tax. All businesses that operate or solicit business in the city limits of Tacoma, or do business with the city of Tacoma through contract are required to file a business & occupation tax return. Business with gross income of less than $70,000 are not required to pay the tax.
